A vision brought to life

The VSLA in Adjoua’s community is more than just a financial lifeline; it's a beacon empowerment. With an initial loan, Adjoua embarked on a journey that would see her beloved doughnuts becoming a neighborhood sensation. The cycle of borrowing and repaying has not only sustained her business but has fueled her ambitions further.

Crafting Dreams Beyond Doughnuts

Adjoua's talents extend to the art of sewing, where her hands create baby clothes and costumes that are cherished in her village. The VSLA's support allows her to purchase fabric and nurture another aspect of her business.

Empowerment through savings

In year 2022/23 the total amount of savings collected through VSLAs supported by Cocoa Horizons amounted to CHF 1,2 million. A significant amount loaned through the VSLAs were invested at community level and on children's education.

The neighbours in the village know me as a creative and a hands-on person. So sewing and baking are what I enjoy doing. Turning them into my business has always been my dream.

Dreaming bigger

With each loan repaid and every new one taken, Adjoua is inching closer to her dream of opening a dedicated doughnut shop. It's a vision that extends beyond personal success to uplift her entire community, demonstrating the transformative power of financial independence and collective support.

A beacon for the future

Adjoua's journey is a beacon for aspiring entrepreneurs in her community. Through the VSLA, she's not just building a business; she's crafting a legacy of empowerment, resilience, and communal prosperity.
