Crafting a sustainable future with cocoa farmers

To us and the 46.000 farmers we partner with, doing more is what counts. Since 2015, we've been planting seeds for farmers to elevate their income from farming and be lifted out of poverty. There's still a long way to go, but the course has been set. Together with Cocoa Horizons, farmers, governments and our customers, we are working towards a transformative cocoa farming model to support living income by 2030.

WHAT CALLEBAUT CONTRIBUTED TO COCOA HORIZONS ACTIVITIES IN 2022/23

8,1 M	total Callebaut premium paid in CHF to COH in year 23/24. You have invested to support cocoa-growing communities. These premiums help empower farmers and their families, invest in their communities, and protect nature.

26712	farmers benefited from our Farm Services activities. Through our Farm Services, we provide farmers access to a farm diagnosis, planting materials, labor support and coaching to improve productivity and increase income. Your commitment to our program meant that:
19716	farmers received a Farm Business Plan. Based on a diagnosis of the farm by field staff, the farmer receives recommendations on how to increase the cocoa yield.
8829	farmers were supported with a Productivity Package. This consists of high quality agricultural inputs and individualized coaching services provided by field staff.

Reshaping cocoa farming

With Cocoa Horizons, we tackle the tough spot farmers are in: they see their yields and their income diminish, making it hard to think about investing in their farms. We offer one-on-one coaching, plant material and soil boosters, plus extra hands when needed, all to help farmers turn things around and grow a brighter future.

Empowering communities

We believe kids should be learning and playing, not working. Together with Cocoa Horizons we work to enable systemic and lasting change on child protection and human rights. We’re investing to empower local communities, especially women, to strengthen families from the inside out.

Regenerating ecosystems

As our forests shrink, the natural umbrella that keeps our cocoa trees and soil safe is vanishing. Cocoa Horizons is on a mission to protect the forests, and strengthen the cocoa-growing ecosystems on existing farmland. Our agroforestry approach is all about growing cocoa with nature, not against it.
